I’m especially not a fan of curved displays, but in the Redmi 5 Plus I was given such a solution, which is surprising, since the Mi MIX 2 itself, with the same diagonals and related sides, did not curl up easily. This is due to the fact that the Mi MIX 2 display is displaced upright and stretches to the top row of icons and is completely unmanageable. While the Redmi 5 Plus has a standard size for the front camera, the upper and lower frames are the same size.

The screen itself has been deprived of all positive aspects: excellent clarity of the picture, wonderful oleophobic coating, great quality to look at, incredible range of brightness.


If you change the white balance of the iPhone 7 Plus, you will see that the Redmi 5 Plus is close to cool colors, and the iPhone is close to warm colors.

The smartphone runs on Android 7.1.2 and MIUI 9.2. Xiaomi has one of the coolest and most functional shells. The latest innovation is the same: Snapdragon 625 - a very balanced solution in terms of productivity and energy consumption. There are many possibilities for working with FHD+ separate buildings. As long as there is no heating, it is especially important for productive games or while running benchmarks.

When I looked at the Honor 7X, I thought that screens in smartphones in a new format, with hundreds of sides 18 by 9 and with narrow frames lit at the bottom, would become a trend in 2018. None of these screens are the prerogative of expensive flagship devices, but step by step move to the middle segment, which, for example, is necessary.

As early as 2018, screens will begin to appear in budget models, and almost all manufacturers will switch to a new display format in absolutely all of their models. And, I can’t confirm my words, the Xiaomi company announced and released its smartphones with a new display format, and it did so in a manner familiar to itself - it created smartphones that were “stuffed” to the maximum.

A new display format, a sleek design, a cool design with a metal body and everything is different. And therefore, the prices are extremely low. Today I will tell you about my enemy Redmi 5.

Getting ahead of myself, I’ll say that Redmi 5 is less impressive than I have ever experienced. And behind my pouch, I can call him the miracle cob of 2018 rock. Let's talk about everything in order.

Let me guess that Redmi 5 will fit into the budget segment. The price will now be around $120-130. I especially want to say that I will find in the Redmi line, although there is an original model that can be seen. And not a crappy representative of the assembly line. Perhaps the only thing that budget smartphones see is their design.

External look and design

Everything looks bad on paper. A thin case, made of metal with plastic inserts, is actually the cheapest option for a metal case. This is not a unibody case, it’s made from a single piece of metal, as was the case in Redmi 4, for example. There is no metal back cover, the entire width of the smartphone has plastic inserts at the bottom for displaying antennas. Yak bulo in Redmi 3 chi 4X.

Redmi 5, however, has a plastic body with a metal insert on the back side. Well, then we took the back panel, covered it with plastic, cut it at the end and “stuck” it into a literally small sheet of metal. Moreover, it is clear that there is not much metal in there, and any plastic with thin metal coatings.

So, get rid of the cheapest smartphones with metal casings. It’s budgetary, but the details are spared for those who don’t care. Most of the prosperous people, I think, won’t give a damn about this.

The camera that sticks in, on the off chance, is more likely to embarrass the rich people for everything. That time, however, is not a great minus. So, it vibrates, as soon as you put it on the table, the dough begins to “walk” left and right in a direction. So, of course, I’ll be clumsy, but I’ll take it completely calmly.

Now the smartphone is only 7.7 mm. Plus it means that the kit includes a transparent, silicone, soft case, which, in principle, eliminates this problem. There are 4 colors available: classic gold and black, as well as a special black and rye.

With ergonomics everything is miraculous. I repeat, the smartphone is thin and the display size is 5.7 inches due to the new screen format. The case is compact, the width is 72 mm, slightly larger than the Redmi 4X, and the smartphone fits comfortably in your hand. You don’t feel like using a shovel if you want to hold your smartphone with one hand and reach with your thumb all the way to the top to lower the notification panel, for example, but it’s still important.

Nowadays, the smartphone is retractable, but all the same for a diagonal of 5.7 inches, the great size is ahead of the handiness of the vikoristan. The arrangement of the elements is more important: on the right side there is a button to turn on the blocking and lining, on the left there is a combination slot.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB and a speaker, a power jack, a microphone and IR transmission. The finger scanner is located on the back side, just under the camera lens, just rests under the index finger and works badly.

About the screen, I can say one thing, it’s really cool. So, in 2018, such screens will be everywhere, although models are cheaper for a hundred dollars, but at the moment this is not the case. And to get such a display from a $120 model is simply amazing.

The screen itself is not very large, but again it looks like a budget model, but the thin frames and new coordinated sides of the screen smooth out all the imperfections. I wasn’t quite able to transfer the color, it turned out to be blurry, but not as much as it was, plus it’s clear that in Redmi 5 there is a great deal of friction between the display balls.

Also bent the low density of pixels, there is 282 PPI, which is negligible, in the eyes of the unaccounted for correspondent. This is obvious, after all, HD+ permission is too small for a 5.7-inch smartphone. Behind the bar of parameters, the display is superior in terms of visibility, brightness and contrast, and is highly dependent on 2.5D technology. And at the same time with thin frames, as a result, the Redmi 5 screen copes with a positive impression. Moreover, it’s amazing that you’ll start snoring, but it’s a headache. In particular, the rounded edges of the display add advantages to the hidden image.

On the other hand, it is also included in older 435 Snapdragon chips, for example.

Alas, the sound there didn’t surprise me so much. Well, I think we may have finished the stink. Otherwise, the power of Qualcomm acoustics simply lies within the chip itself. Both on fresh and on older chips, he shows himself better. It’s not a big deal that what impressed me the most about the Snapdragon 450 is its autonomy.

What is the autonomy of a robot?

What is important is the importance of the Snapdragon 450, which is actually a new chip, which literally, in the middle of the summer, was presented among the leading chips of the budget line 435, 430, and so on. Plus, they added energy-efficient support for the 18 by 9 screen, rear cameras, increasing the speed of data transfer. The latest MIUI 9 is added and the operation is truly energy efficient.

There are two versions of the smartphone. The first one has two gigabytes of RAM and sixteen permanent memory. Another classic is 3 plus 32. I had the same first one and I’m talking about it. Everything is running smoothly, there is a concern about the speed of launching programs, the interruptions between them, the smoothness of the work.

Negative signs are given, a few, only a small amount of operative memory. When you turn it back on, the stench will periodically reappear, but that’s normal. In my opinion, Redmi May 5 does not have the greatest improvement in productivity and energy efficiency. And within the framework of the super-budget class of devices, such as the Redmi 5, I respect this chip with all due respect.

This slot is not hybrid, so it is not possible to replace one of the SIM cards with a memory card, and the adjacent slot for microSD is also not transferred. Nano-SIM cards are placed one by one in a single metal sled and are hot-swappable.

The mechanical keys are arranged on the right side in the original order. The buttons are large, clearly protrude beyond the boundaries of the body, the hardness is slightly above average, but does not cause any particular discomfort when manipulating them.

The back wall, made of Gorilla Glass 4, has noticeable curves on its sides, through which the smartphone, a mute one, can be held in the bottom. The camera module does not protrude beyond the surfaces at all, so it is entirely easy to handle the device while it is lying on the table and will not come apart.

The center of the main chamber on the back side is also a two-colored system of bright colors, which consists of two LEDs. And the ability of vikors to sleep like a light-hearted man.

What’s interesting is that, unlike most current smartphones, designers who try to follow fashion trends, here the front side is absolutely flat and does not have curved edges, like in 2.5D panels. Then the entire necessary set of sensors is complete, as well as the LED indicator, located above the display of the sensors. The color and operating mode of the indicator can be independently changed in settings.
